Health & safety

As a food establishment we take food and customer safety really seriously and, as such, we have a couple of rules regarding the health and well being of all workshop participants.

Prior to attending an event hosted by The Chocolate Shed all guests (or the appropriate adult responsible for those aged under 18) are required to have read and consented to our Health and Safety guidelines.  These will be either sent to the event organiser (ie. the person making the booking for a party) or to guests directly (in the case of bookings on our workshop series).

Please read on for a summary of our policy.

Attendance in the event of illness
We politely request that no guest attend our workshop if they or a member of their immediate family for which they provide care:
  • has suffered symptoms of diarrhea and/or vomiting in the 48 hours preceding the workshop OR
  • has a fever (high temperature), continuous persistent cough or symptoms potentially caused by a contagious illness such as coronavirus in the 7 days prior to the event OR
  • if they are awaiting the results of a coronavirus test or have a received a positive test result in the last 14 days.

Please contact us if this applies to you and we will discuss the best option regarding your booking.
COVID-19 management
As a food business working with children, vulnerable adults and the elderly, The Chocolate Shed takes food safety, hygiene and protecting people very seriously.  We follow the guidelines laid out by Public Health England regarding corona virus closely and update our procedures accordingly, as required.

We wish all our workshops to be an enjoyable experience for those attending and to be in a position to encourage people to safely eat and enjoy the products they make during the workshop.

Thus, we politely request that no guest attend our workshop if they or a member of their immediate family for which they provide care:
  • has a fever (high temperature), continuous persistent cough or symptoms potentially caused by a contagious illness such as coronavirus in the 7 days prior to the event OR
  • if they are awaiting the results of a coronavirus test or have a received a positive test result in the last 14 days.

Please contact us if this applies to you and we will discuss the best option regarding your booking.

In addition:
  • Hand washing facilities are available in The Chocolate Shed and we activity encourage all those entering our venue to use them.
  • All guests, carers, viewers or parents appearing unwell and displaying symptoms consistent with any potentially contagious illness will be asked to leave at the sole discretion of the Chocolate Shed party host.

Should we have to cancel or delay an event as the result of Public Health England corona virus guidelines changing, we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

For those with severe health conditions who do not feel quite ready to attend an event with us yet but still want some chocolate-y fun, we recommend our The Chocolate Shed in a Box home truffle making kit.  Alternatively, get in touch and we will see how we can help bring a chocolate-y smile to a loved-one's face at home.
Allergens
We take allergies and intolerances very seriously. We are able to cater for most food allergies and intolerances if we are notified about them at least seven days prior to the workshop taking place. We ask party organisers to request their guests (or the parents of their guests if under 18) to complete a form prior to attending the workshop confirming if they have any allergies, intolerances or medical conditions of which we need to be aware.

We routinely use ingredients containing soy, milk, wheat and occasionally nuts within our workshop space. We also use other ingredients containing different allergens on a more occasional basis. Although we take all necessary and thorough precautions, we can not rule out the possibility of trace contamination.

Hence please speak to us prior to booking, especially if you are aware of a guest with a highly sensitive condition.  We'll be happy to discuss your specific needs to ensure that the workshop is safe for all participants.
Disabled access
Parking for disabled visitors is available in the courtyard immediately outside The Chocolate Shed. To access this simply turn left after entering Yew Tree Farm Shopping Village from Pettiford Rd and follow the road around into the yard on entry.

Please be aware that the building is old with low beams which taller guests (5 foot 10 and above) may find inconvenient and the yard is uneven in places so trip hazards are present. Access to The Chocolate Shed itself is up a low step (about three inches). Assistance is available for those arriving who require the use of a wheelchair.
Car parking
Parking is available on site. For workshops taking place during working hours (10-5 Tuesday to Sunday) car parking is available in the main car park at the back of the site signposted from the main entrance off Pettiford Lane.

Toilet facilities
Toilet facilities (including accessible/disabled toilets) for visitors to Yew Tree Farm Shopping can be found next to The Cowshed Cafe, across the courtyard from The Chocolate Shed.
