What's involved!
Our 'Choc-tastic for grown ups!' workshop package is inspired by our best selling and classic favourite children's chocolate-making birthday party experience: Bespoke Bars.
Who hasn't had a childhood dream of one day being 'Willy Wonker' from Roald Dahl's classic book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and wanted to one day make 'the BEST EVER' chocolate bar??!
There is something for everyone: from being the ideal setting to spend quality, relaxing and fun time with friends, family or colleagues, to an arena for those with a passion for great tasting food to experiment and craft the the chocolate bars and lollipops of their dreams.
No prior knowledge is required. The workshop is suitable for guests aged 7-107 years!
Under the guidance of our skilled team of chocolatiers you and your group will each create four chocolate bars and two hand piped lollipops from start to finish. During the session we aim to give participants the skills and confidence that they need to temper chocolate from callets using readily available kitchen equipment, to experiment with flavouring and the tricks of the trade for chocolate moulding, piping and decorating. For those members of your group who may have already started their chocolate journey at home there will be plenty of opportunity to seek chocolate advice and trouble shoot any previous problems they have encountered.
The session starts with everyone designing their chocolate bars, the base of which will be painted with specialist cocoa butter paints. Guests may opt to draw images or write messages on the bars with the paint. This is more tricky than one might think - whatever is written will appear as a mirror image on the final chocolate bar! Getting your hands sticky is fully encouraged though, and so more playful (and highly effective) techniques such as splattering cocoa butter paint can also be adopted or experimented with.

Once the bar moulds have been prepared and painted, each member of your group will be given a large cupful of perfectly tempered milk chocolate. Individuals can then decide if they wish to add flavours to their bars (optional). The chocolate is poured into the bar moulds, air bubbles removed and the tops of the bars scrapped back to give a smooth finish (scraping out and eating the left over tempered chocolate is highly encouraged ;-) ).
The final stage before the bars go into our fridge for cooling is to add the all important toppings. We have a range of inclusions and treats which can be added, from playful fluffy marshmallows and brightly coloured and flavoured buttons, to artisan ingredients such as Droitwich salt, crispy caramel crunch pieces, honeycomb, specialist chocolatier grade dried fruit crunches and more...
While the chocolate bars are cooling, guests will turn their hand to designing and creating two hand piped lollipops each. Whilst the technique of chocolate moulding is embraced when making bars, chocolate piping is used to make lollipops.
At the end of the workshop, each guest will take home their chocolate masterpieces (around 4 bars and 2 lollipops each in total) in a clear (plant-based) bag to share with family and friends (possibly!).
All our adult group workshops:
- Participants use readily available, real ingredients and standard kitchen equipment. We aim to provide guests with enough knowledge and skill to recreate their delicious chocolates at home afterwards, if desired.
- Our skilled chocolatiers are always at hand to answer your chocolate questions, giving you an opportunity to trouble shoot any previous chocolate-making issues you have experienced in the past and seek chocolate advice.
- Require no prior chocolate making experience unless you specifically request a session tailored to advance chocolate making!
- You are welcome to bring your own bottle (and glasses) to assist with your celebrations.

Frequently asked questions
How difficult is chocolate making? Do we need prior experience?
All adult chocolate making workshops hosted by The Chocolate Shed assume no prior knowledge (unless requested otherwise). Chocolate making is a universally enjoyed activity, accessible to all ages and abilities. (Yes! We have hosted family groups which included toddlers and their great-grandparents all making chocolate together.)
Traveling to The Chocolate Shed
The best way to reach The Chocolate Shed is by car (or taxi). We are located at Yew Tree Farm shopping village, a short distance along the A3400 out of Stratford upon Avon. You can read more here. Parking is available onsite to the rear of the shopping village. Disabled parking can be found in the courtyard immediately outside our venue.
We are also located a short walk from Wootton Wawen train station- a rural service between Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham.
Do we need to bring with us?
No, everything (tuition and materials) will be provided on the day, including an apron.
Soft drinks (tea, coffee, squash) are available on request for a small additional fee, but feel free to bring any other beverage/food to enjoy during the workshop.
Can you recommend a place to have lunch/dinner before/after the workshop?
Why not make a day of your visit to The Chocolate Shed? We are located in a beautiful part of the Warwickshire countryside. At Yew Tree Farm Shopping Village there is a lovely array of independent shops and businesses, including The Cowshed cafe (open for lunch) and Yew Tree Farm Shop (excellent take-aways and snacks). Alternatively we recommend The Bull's Head in Wootton Wawen or the short trip to either Henley in Arden or Stratford upon Avon, where there is a wide choice of excellent restaurants.
For those traveling from further afield who may wish to stay overnight there are numerous excellent hotels locally. We can recommend The Arden Hotel, Exclusively Warwickshire, Wootton Park... to name but a few!

Unless requested in advance, all participants will be using milk and white chocolate. We can accommodate most special dietary requirements but will need at least a weeks notice to ensure suitable alternative ingredients are available. (For example, if we know in advance, dark chocolate can be provided for those on lactose-free or vegan diets.)
Please note, all our chocolate contains SOY lecithin- a key ingredient which helps impart its smooth, melt-in-the-mouth flavour and texture.

We are a large group
The Chocolate Shed can host groups of up to 14 participants. For larger groups there are a number of options and we are happy to discuss which suites you best on booking: we can travel to a suitable larger venue of your choosing; arrange to rent a local community hall close to us on your behalf for your event; or you may wish to split your group into sub-teams and we host a smaller event for each.
What facilities do you require to host a workshop in our venue?
In order to host a chocolate workshop we require access to electricity and hot running water. There must be seating and table/work surface space for all participants to comfortably create their chocolate masterpieces. We also suggest that the venue has wipe clean floors and furnishings since occasionally there are spills and chocolate can be difficult to remove from carpet!
I'm not sure how many guests will be able to attend yet.
It is relatively easy for us to add or reduce the numbers attending your workshop and adjust your invoice accordingly. If unsure, we recommend making a booking based on our minimum numbers (8 for Choc-tastic for grown ups!) and letting us know 14-7 days before the event if more children are attending. Read here for more details.

After completing the booking form, one of our team will be in touch to confirm possible dates and times with you, discuss themes and activities for your session and answer any outstanding questions you may have.
Once you are happy, we ask for a 25% deposit to be paid to secure your booking; the remaining balance is due 7 days prior to your event. Full terms and conditions can be found here.
After your booking is confirmed we will send you a health and safety form for each participant to complete. This is just to ensure that our staff are aware of any relevant medical conditions and allergies so that your session is safe as well as fun.
